The Okmulgee County Election Board is now accepting applications for precinct officials, also known as poll workers, ahead of upcoming elections, with a deadline set for May 8.
Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes encourages residents to consider serving, noting both the importance of the role and the limited time commitment.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the election system,” Carnes said. “While the hours can be long, poll workers are only needed for a few days each year.”
Positions available include Inspector, Judge, Clerk, Auxiliary, Substitute and Provisional Voting Officer. Officials said there is a particular need for workers in the Henryetta, Dewar and Schulter areas.
Applicants must be registered voters in Okmulgee County and must serve within the county. Additionally, precinct officials cannot be related to or employed by any candidate appearing on the ballot.
Those selected will be required to work long hours on Election Day and attend a mandatory training session. The Okmulgee County Election Board has scheduled two training opportunities for Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14, 2026. Both sessions will begin at 9 a.m. at Green Country Technology Center, located at 1100 OK-56 Loop in Okmulgee.
Training will cover Election Day procedures, applicable laws and updated statewide guidelines to ensure poll workers are fully prepared. Completion of the training is required by state law.
Poll workers are compensated for their service, with some eligible for mileage reimbursement, as determined by state statutes.
Applications are available at the Okmulgee County Election Board office. For more information or to apply, residents may call 918-756-2365, email OkmulgeeCounty@ elections.ok.gov, or visit the Oklahoma State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/ elections/volunteer/poll-worker- opportunities.html.
