Boys combine sprint power, field strength for eight-place finish The Dewar Junior High boys track and field teams delivered a balanced effort April 11 at Stroud, with the 7th grade group finishing eighth overall and the 8th grade squad placing 10th, highlighted by sprint podiums, strong distance running and a key field event performance.
The 7th grade boys were strongest in sprint competition, where they collected multiple top-five finishes. In the 100-meter dash, Dewar produced a fourth-place finish in 13.77 and a fifth-place effort in 13.80. The success continued in the 200 meters, where a third-place finish in 28.70 marked one of the top performances of the meet, followed by a 29.62 effort that added valuable points.
Mid-distance races provided steady contributions. In the 400 meters, Dewar posted a sixth-place finish in 1:08.55 along with a 1:16.67 run, while the 800-meter event featured times of 2:43.73 and 3:15.38. The 1600-meter run added further depth with a 6:00.90 performance.
The 8th grade boys highlighted their day in both field and distance events. A standout high jump performance of 5 feet, 6 inches earned a second-place finish and provided one of the strongest scoring efforts for the entire program. In the 800-meter run, a fourth-place finish in 2:37.04 added another key result.
Hurdle events also contributed to the team total, with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.48 and a sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles at 57.01. The 400-meter dash added additional depth with a time of 1:04.14.

The Dewar Junior High girls track and field program produced a strong combined showing April 11 at Stroud, finishing sixth overall behind steady performances from both 7th and 8th grade athletes.
The 7th grade group set the tone with a dominant presence in the hurdle events. In the 100-meter hurdles, Dewar secured a first-place finish in 17.61, supported by a second competitor who posted 22.10. The momentum carried into the 300-meter hurdles, where another first-place performance at 54.84 added key points and established the group as one of the top hurdle units in the meet.
On the sprint side, Dewar showed consistent depth. In the 100-meter dash, Emerald Jones led the way with a 15.09, followed closely by Brianna Bell at 15.21 and Kaia Russell at 17.41. The trio returned in the 200 meters, where Bell ran 33.65, Jones posted 33.68, and Russell finished in 35.70, maintaining competitive spacing throughout both events.
Mid-distance races added additional scoring opportunities. A 2nd-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:09.52) helped anchor the lineup, while the 800-meter run produced another strong finish at 2:40.82, along with additional depth at 3:50.55.
Relay events further supported the team’s overall standing. The 4×100 relay squad of Brianna Bell, Emerald Jones, Abigail Russell and Kaia Russell placed fifth in 1:01.46. The same group duplicated that finish in the 4×200 relay, recording a 2:11.21 to close out a consistent day in sprint relays.
The 8th grade group added valuable depth in sprint and field events. In the 100-meter dash, Kyleigh Delso posted a time of 17.20, followed by a 34.45 in the 200 meters. While smaller in numbers, the upperclass group contributed steady support across their events.
