Commissioners issue Burn Ban

Okmulgee County Commissioners approved a Burn Ban for the week of Sept. 27 through Oct. 4 due to the lack of rain and high humidity levels during their regular meeting Monday morning. Due to this ban, anyone found violating the burn ban could be subject to a fine or imprisonment, or both.

As part of the public non-agenda items, the County Treasurer’s office announced that the County Commissioners Sale, originally scheduled for Monday, had to be postponed due to not having proper advertisement in the newspaper prior to the sale. That sale has been tentatively rescheduled for Oct. 18.

A county resident, Raymond Padgett, addressed commissioners concerning work being done near his property by County workers to improve a ditch and drainage issues along Turkey Pen Hollow.

“They are abusing my land and took a bunch of dirt away,” Padgett said.

According to Padgett, workers from District 3 have been working on a ditch to improve drainage along the road. Padgett claimed the workers went beyond the 25' right-of-way. Dan Artussee with District 3 stated the workers had only worked within the boundaries of their right-of-way.

Assistant District Attorney Greg Stidham stated the best thing would be having a surveyor confirm the property line.

“We will survey what is County and what is private, and then go from there,” County Commissioner Ron Ballard said.

“I just don't want my land taken away,” Padgett said.

Commissioner Ballard said they would get the area surveyed as soon as possible.

During Officer's Reports, County Clerk Cathi Murphy stated the Election Board reported collections of $995 for the month of August.

Blanket Purchases were also approved:

Assessor's Office, Fuel as Needed, Okmulgee County District 2 - $200

General Government, Com-Data Network, Fuel as Needed - $700

District 2, RPI, Parts and Supplies as Needed - $1,000

Highway District 3, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Parts and Supplies as Needed - $250

Highway District 3, UniFirst, Uniforms as Needed - $700

Commissioners approved the donation of leave from Dawn Longan to Melissa Smith. There were no utility permits or private property agreements.

Approval was given to use a building at 5005 N. Wood Drive as well as a JAG Grant for the Sheriff 's Department.

“This money doesn't cost the county anything,” Sheriff Eddy Rice said. “This will help with the purchase of printers to allow our officers to print e-tickets in their vehicles as well as license scanners.”

Commissioners voted to table approving requisitioning/receiving officers for the month.

Other items approved were:

Detention Transportation Claims

Resolution #21-119 for Disposing of Equipment that was junked

Carrier A/C from the North Small Office

Crosley A/C from the DA's Office, northeast room

Resolution #21-120a for Disposing of Equipment that was traded in

Asphalt Patching Machine

Street Dura-patcher

Pay claim totaling $1,320.55

Under New Business Commissioners approved a resolution to pay for remodeling work in Room 100 of the Court House.

A resolution was also presented for redistricting in the county, due to some incorrect information on the resolution, the commissioners will review the resolution at a later date.
