The Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Softball Coaches Association (OSSCA) announced the players that were selected for the Small, Middle and Large School All-State teams for 2020. Dewar, Preston and Henryetta had athletes named to the roster, showing off their skill and dedication in a short season interrupted due to COVID-19.
Both of Dewar High School’s slow-pitch seniors were named to the East Small School All-State Roster - Noelani Corbin and Skyler Randall. Corbin had been previously named to the Oklahoma Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association’s (OGBCA) All-District team and also to the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s All-Star Basketball team.
The Class 2A Lady Dragons closed the 2020 season with a 5-2 record, sweeping past opponents such as Class A Graham-Dustin (25-9) and Class 2A Davenport (28-7).
Preston High School’s slow-pitch squad also had one member named to the Middle School All-State Roster. Senior first baseman Kaelyn Roberts garnered All-State honors after leading the Class 3A Lady Pirates to a 3-2 record. She was one of the powerful hitters the Lady Pirates had on their roster, earning three homers in a five-game season. Roberts committed to Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawerence, Kan. earlier this year where she will be playing under head coach Gary Tanner. Preston senior Abbie Long was also named to the OSSCA Academic All-State Roster. This marks the second Academic All-State team she has been named to. Long was also nominated and selected for the OGBCA Academic All-State team.
In the Large School division, Henryetta High School’s slow-pitch team had one senior named to the roster - first baseman Autumn Blackbear. The Lady Knights left their mark last season, making it to the Class 4A Slow-Pitch State championship and had the drive this season to do it again. Blackbear helped lead the Lady Knights to a 6-1 season record before the cancelation of spring sports due to COVID-19. In a short seven-game season, Blackbear earned four home runs, three doubles and one grand slam.
According to the OSSCA, there will not be any All-State games for any of the divisions. The association will also not be ordering plaques, t-shirts nor programs.
