100 Years Ago (1926)

• A household mishap sent the fire department rushing to the home of Arch Thompson. A pair of overalls, washed in gasoline and then boiled, ignited when fumes caught fire. Mrs. Thompson tried to carry the burning boiler outside, but when she opened the door, the wind blew flames into her face, severely burning her face and hands. No further damage occurred.

• A Miami Beach deputy sheriff passed through Henryetta carrying diamonds that Earnest Jameson was accused of stealing. After being returned to Florida, Jameson reportedly confessed and revealed where he had hidden the jewelry – “buried in the ground across the tracks from the Frisco depot in Okmulgee” – wrapped in a handkerchief with a soda bottle marking the spot. The deputy said it took only minutes to recover the loot. Jameson had been arrested
