Two sweet girls still waiting

The Okmulgee County Humane Society is once again asking the community to open its heart to two deserving dogs one who arrived under heartbreaking circumstances this week, and another who has been patiently waiting for months for a family to call her own.

— A Gentle Soul Left Behind

Earlier this week, Humane Society volunteers took in a sweet female dog who was found tied to a pole and left alone. Whoever left her behind also left questions no one may ever be able to answer – but what is clear is her gentle nature and trusting heart.

Despite what she has been through, this dog remains incredibly loving. Volunteers say she rides calmly in the car, leans in for affection, and looks at people with a quiet hope that suggests she still believes in kindness. She was found wearing a nice collar and leash, a sign that she was cared for at some point in her life.

Now, she needs a new beginning.

The Humane Society is seeking either a foster home where she can decompress and feel safe, or a permanent home where she will never have to wonder again where she belongs. Staff members say she has a calm temperament and a loving personality that would make her a wonderful companion.

For anyone who has ever thought about fostering or adopting, this gentle girl could be the perfect place to start.

— Lacey is still waiting While the newly arrived dog is just beginning her journey, another resident has been waiting far longer.

Lacey, a beautiful young dog who is nearing two years old, has been at the shelter since May 2025. Volunteers say she is affectionate, playful and loves nothing more than spending time with people. She thrives on attention and would make an excellent snuggle buddy for a family looking for a loyal companion.

Lacey is already spayed and fully up to date on vaccinations, meaning she is ready to go home with a family right away.

Shelter staff say dogs like Lacey sometimes get overlooked simply because they have been there longer, but they emphasize that longterm residents often make some of the most devoted pets.

The Humane Society reminds residents that choosing to adopt locally is one of the most meaningful ways to help animals in need. Every adoption opens space for another rescue, giving more abandoned or stray animals a chance at safety and care.

Adopted pets from the shelter are fully vetted, and adoption fees are kept as affordable as possible to make responsible pet ownership accessible while supporting the work of the rescue.

More importantly, adoption gives a deserving animal something priceless – a second chance.

Those interested in fostering or adopting either of these dogs are encouraged to contact the Okmulgee County Humane Society or submit an application. Even sharing their stories with friends and family can help them find the homes they deserve.

One dog is just beginning her search for a new life.

The other has been waiting patiently for months.

Both are ready to love – all they need now is someone willing to love them back.
