A Month of Love

A Month of Love

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce is inviting residents and visitors alike to celebrate love in a unique and meaningful way – by taking part in a growing community tradition centered around the Henryetta Love Lock.

Located at Cowboy Pocket Park, the Henryetta Love Lock has quickly become a symbol of connection, commitment and community spirit. The metal art installation, generously donated by local residents Amber and TJ Mordecai, carries a heartfelt story that has resonated throughout the community.

What began as a deeply personal gesture soon transformed into a lasting gift for the entire town. Amber Mordecai designed the Love Lock structure as a symbol of enduring love for her husband, TJ, during a time when life reminded them how precious every moment can be. Hoping to create something lasting and heartfelt, she envisioned a place where others could celebrate their own love stories.

With the help of student welders and instructor Steven Hale at Green Country Technology Center, Amber’s vision became reality. The students and instructors worked together to transform steel into a lasting symbol of devotion, demonstrating both craftsmanship and community pride.

Rather than keeping the installation as a personal tribute, Amber and TJ chose to donate the piece to the Chamber, allowing it to become a shared experience for the entire community. Today, the Love Lock stands proudly at Cowboy Pocket Park, inviting both locals and visitors to participate in a tradition seen in cities around the world – placing a lock to represent love, hope and treasured memories.

Couples, families and friends are encouraged to purchase a lock locally or bring one from home, attach it to the sculpture and become part of Henryetta’s growing story of love and unity.

In celebration of Valentine’s season, the Chamber is launching a special promotion designed to encourage participation and highlight local dining opportunities. Community members and visitors are invited to visit the Love Lock, snap a photo and share it on social media while tagging VisitHenryetta or using the hashtag #VisitHenryetta. Participants will be entered for a chance to win a gift certificate to a local Henryetta restaurant, courtesy of TJ and Chamber Tourism representatives.

The promotion offers a perfect opportunity for a romantic date night, a family outing or a memorable stop for travelers passing through town.

Chamber Tourism officials say the Love Lock represents more than just romantic relationships. The installation celebrates love in all forms – from family bonds and friendships to the shared pride residents have for their community.

The Henryetta Love Lock serves as a reminder that even the smallest personal stories can grow into meaningful traditions when shared with others. What started as one couple’s heartfelt expression has become a landmark that continues to draw people together and create lasting memories.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by Cowboy Pocket Park throughout February, add their lock, capture the moment and help continue a tradition that reflects both love and community pride in Henryetta.
