The Beggs Golden Demons are playoff- bound once again after a gritty 34-19 road win over the Tishomingo Indians on Friday night. In a game where both teams’ postseason hopes hung in the balance, Beggs delivered a second-half statement that silenced the home crowd and eliminated the Indians from playoff contention.
After a back-and-forth first half that saw five lead changes, the Demons took control midway through the third quarter. The turning point came after the Beggs defense stopped the Indians in the red zone to open the second half. Davison calmly led an 85-yard drive, mixing short passes and steady runs before handing it off to Ross, who darted through a crease and into the end zone from 12 yards out. Beggs extended its lead to 27-19, and the Demons’ sideline roared to life.
Moments later, Wesley read Ar- nold’s eyes perfectly and intercepted a pass on the Indian side of the field. One snap later, Ross delivered the knockout blow – a dazzling run down the Beggs sideline that left defenders in his wake. As he crossed the goal line to make it 34-19, the celebration began.
From there, the Golden Demons controlled both sides of the ball. The defense blanked Tishomingo in the second half while the offense churned out clock and yards, led by Ross’s punishing runs and Baker’s reliable hands.
“This was a big one for us,” said head coach David Shannon afterward, his voice equal parts pride and purpose. “We knew Tishomingo was fighting for their season, and they came out swinging. But our kids kept answering the call. I’m proud of our seniors – they’ve shown so much heart. We’re excited to be in the playoffs, but we know the job’s not finished yet.”
The night started with fireworks. Tishomingo caught everyone off guard with a surprise onside kick and quickly marched 43 yards to score on a 12-yard strike from Braden Arnold to Bryor Winnington. The Indians came out swinging, fighting for their postseason lives.
But Beggs – a team that’s been in its share of battles – didn’t flinch. After a quick completion from Ethen Davison to Jordan Wesley, running back Trey Ross turned on the jets for a 51-yard burst, setting up his own short touchdown run to even the score.
The first quarter ended with Tishomingo on top, 13-7, after Arnold connected with Dylan Burton on a screen pass as time expired. But the Demons struck right back.
Early in the second quarter, Bobby Baker made a leaping interception along the Beggs sideline, shifting momentum in a heartbeat. The Demons then dipped into their playbook of tricks – Wesley took a reverse from Jason Nethon and fired a perfect 37yard pass to Peyton Kelley, setting up his own 14yard touchdown run one play later. Just like that, Beggs was back in front, 14-13.
Tishomingo answered once more with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Orr, but the Demons’ two-minute offense had the final word of the half. With just over a minute left, Davison found Baker streaking across the middle for a 52-yard gain. Ross finished the drive with a two-yard plunge to send Beggs into the locker room ahead 20-19 – a lead they would never relinquish.
Ross finished with 13 carries for 157 yards and four touchdowns, continuing a red-hot streak that has seen him rack up 287 yards and seven scores over the last two weeks. Baker added seven catches for 118 yards and a key interception, while Wesley contributed in all phases – 37 passing yards, 56 total yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions on defense.
With the win, Beggs improves to 4-2 in Class 2AII District 2, clinching a playoff berth and eliminating Tishomingo from contention. The Demons now set their sights on a home showdown with Dibble (7-2) next Friday – a game that could determine third place in the district standings.
For a team that’s battled through adversity all season, the path ahead is clear: keep playing Demon football.
