HPS reviews progress, approves staff changes

At its regular monthly meeting on June 9, the Henryetta Board of Education tackled a full agenda of updates, approvals and personnel matters, as the district gears up for the 2025-26 academic year. Superintendent Jason Price led the session, joined by school administrators, department heads and board members at the Board of Education Office.

--- Superintendent’s Report: Roofing Recovery & Campus Improvements Superintendent Price provided a detailed update highlighting significant financial and infrastructure developments. The district recently recovered more than $459,000 in additional insurance funds related to past roofing damage and expects another $102,000 in forthcoming payments. These efforts, Price said, are part of an aggressive push to secure funding for proper roofing replacements - especially at the elementary school - and to rectify previous oversights in insurance claims.

In addition, Price noted ongoing preparations to res-tripe all district parking lots this summer. “This is a safety concern, as cars jockey for position at times not knowing where to park,” Price said. He is working with G Force Striping to finalize plans for the project during a low-traffic week in July.

Other facility improvements include adding surveillance cameras around the gym and CNG stations, acquiring a new bad boy mower for athletics grounds and seeking a replacement for a broken carpet cleaning machine. “The cost of cleaning just the district office carpets would be about $3,500 about the same as purchasing a machine outright,” Price said, noting this would save money and improve cleanliness district-wide.

Reports were received from the high school about end of year activities and summer programs. Driver’s education and virtual summer learning programs are in progress, and the school year has wrapped up with all necessary reporting submitted.

Henryetta Middle School Principal Jayme Matlock gave her final report before transitioning into a federal programs role beginning July 1. She reflected on her 25 years with HPS, thanking the board, staff and community for the opportunity to serve as an educator and administrator.

Student transfers are underway. Several steps are in place to guide families through the process, and at least five incoming transfers have already been confirmed.

The board approved several financial and insurance-related actions, including: • Minutes from the May 12 meeting

• Encumbrances and financial reports for the 2024-25 school year

• Worker’s Compensation Insurance with OSAG for 2025-26 at $54,110 (up from $50,388 the previous year)

• Property and Casualty Insurance Coverage with OSIG for 2025-26 at $235,025 (down from $255,966)

• An updated Originator Agreement with American Exchange Bank

• Renewal of the Section 7003 Impact Aid Application through J & J School Services

• Membership renewal with the Oklahoma Schools Advisory Council (OSAC) for $600 to support training access The board voted to hire Shawn Hines as Assistant Football Coach and teacher. Hines will be teaching health, personal finance and literacy. The board also approved hiring Tina Page as an elementary teacher. Page previously taught at Wilson Public Schools and brings years of experience to her new role.

Several resignations were accepted, including:

• Jayley Wingard

• Colten Wion

• Lisa South Board member Wes George submitted his resignation effective June 9 due to a new professional opportunity at Oral Roberts University. His departure was acknowledged with appreciation for his years of service. George has served on the board for about two years.

The board approved:

• Fundraisers for the 2024-25 school year

• Booster Club contributions of $100 each (Baseball, Cheer and QB Boosters) to the All-Sports Banquet fund

• A $500 donation from the Boys Basketball activity account to the Girls Basketball team for clock duty during games
