Oklahoma’s statewide unemployment outlook remained largely positive in February 2025, with jobless rates declining over the year in 48 counties, according to new figures from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. However, 21 counties experienced increased unemployment, and rates held steady in eight.
Oklahoma’s statewide unemployment outlook remained largely positive in February 2025, with jobless rates declining over the year in 48 counties, according to new figures from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. However, 21 counties experienced increased unemployment, and rates held steady in eight.
Pushmataha County recorded the highest unemployment rate in the state at 5.7%, followed closely by Love County at 5.6% and McIntosh County at 5.5%. Meanwhile, Texas County posted the lowest rate in the state at just 2.1%.
In Okmulgee County, the unemployment rate stood at 4.4% for February, marking a slight uptick from 4.3% in January but still lower than the 4.7% reported in February 2024. The local labor force consisted of 15,838 workers, with 15,143 employed and 695 unemployed.
Surrounding counties reported a variety of unemployment rates for February 2025:
• Tulsa County: 3.5%
• Creek County: 3.7%
• Okfuskee County: 4.5%
• McIntosh County: 5.5%
• Muskogee County: 5.1%
• Wagoner County: 3.4% Among neighboring counties, McIntosh and Muskogee counties had notably higher rates than Okmulgee, while Wagoner and Tulsa counties reported lower jobless figures.
Across the state, labor market conditions showed modest improvements. Unemployment rates in major metro areas such as Oklahoma City (3.4%) and Tulsa (3.5%) remained below the statewide average. The lowest rates were found in rural counties like Dewey (2.2%) and Cimarron (2.4%).
As economic activity continues to expand in urban centers and rural areas alike, the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission continues to monitor job growth and support workforce development initiatives across all counties.
