A Musical Journey Through Time

A Musical Journey Through Time

Turn the dial, cue the music and get ready to be transported back to a time when the radio ruled the airwaves.

H-Town Theatre, under the direction of Justin Been, is set to bring that nostalgic experience to life with its 2026 Spring Showcase, “KHEN 1590: Tunes From Teens,” scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at the Alice Ghostley Auditorium.

This year’s production is more than just a performance – it’s a tribute to Henryetta’s own radio history. Coach Been recently sat down with alumni who were once student DJs on KHEN 1590, a local station that broadcast from approximately 1958 to 1982. Inspired by those conversations, the show- case was built around the idea of radio as the heartbeat of music culture.

“We wanted to take our audience back to a time when people gathered around the radio,” Been said. “It’s a celebration of music, memories and the incredible talent we have right here in Henryetta.”

With nearly 40 students auditioning this year, the showcase will feature one of the largest and most diverse casts H-Town Theatre has assembled. From seasoned performers to first-time faces, the production promises energy, variety and plenty of crowd-pleasing moments.

Audience members can expect a dynamic mix of classic hits and modern favorites – all performed live by Henryetta students who are embracing the spirit of radio storytelling.

– A Playlist Packed with Hits While H-Town Theatre has traditionally kept its setlist under wraps, this year’s production is giving audiences a sneak peek at some of the songs they’ll hear on “KHEN 1590.”

Among the featured selections are:

• “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra

• “Stand by Your Man” by Tammy Wynette

• “We Belong Together” by Los Lobos

• “At Last” by Etta James

• “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner

• “You’re No Good” by Linda Ronstadt

• “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash

• “Alone” by Heart

• “No One Like You” by Scorpions

• “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival

• “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke The wide-ranging playlist reflects the showcase’s central theme – blending generations of music into one unforgettable experience, just like a great radio station would.

Adding to the excitement, the production will feature a full showcase atmosphere with hosting by DJ JB Spin and DJ K-Licious, choreography by Mabrey Been, and sound production by DJ PT – further bringing the radio concept to life.

From soulful ballads to high-energy rock anthems, the showcase aims to keep audiences engaged from the first note to the final curtain.

Tickets will be available for $10 for adults and $5 for students.

H-Town Theatre continues to be a shining example of student creativity and community pride, and this year’s showcase is shaping up to be one of its most ambitious productions yet.

Whether you’re drawn by the nostalgia of classic radio, the excitement of live performance or simply the chance to support local students, “KHEN 1590: Tunes From Teens” promises something for everyone.

So tune in, take your seat, and let Henryetta’s rising stars take you on a musical journey you won’t soon forget.
