The Wilson Tigers fought with everything they had in the OSSAA Class B State Championship game, but their historic run fell just short as they were defeated 56-43 by top-ranked Calumet on Saturday at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.

The loss marked a tough end to an incredible season for the Tigers, who battled their way through a talented field to earn their spot in the title game for the second consecutive year. Despite their best efforts, Wilson couldn’t overcome Calumet’s second-half surge and cold shooting from beyond the arc.

The Tigers, led by standout player Ke’shon Shelburn, kept the game close throughout the first half, trailing by only two points (30-28) before Calumet took control with a decisive 13-2 run. Shelburn was a force on the court, posting a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. His aggressive play in the paint helped Wilson dominate the boards, out-rebounding Calumet 31-29 and recording six blocked shots.

Fellow Tiger Zion Shelburn added 15 points, while Za’brien Shelburn and Charles Shelburn chipped in seven and three points, respectively. However, Wilson’s struggles from three-point range – shooting just 2-of-20 from deep – proved costly as Calumet’s defense forced tough shots throughout the night.

Wilson’s road to the championship game was nothing short of spectacular. They opened the state tournament with a dominant 72-55 win over Hammon on Wednesday. Ke’shon Shelburn and Zion Shelburn combined for 46 points, with Zion leading all scorers with 24 points and Ke’shon adding 22. Aiden Barnard also contributed with 10 points and strong interior defense, while Anthony Wind Jr. made key defensive plays to help secure the victory.

In the semifinals, the Tigers faced a scrappy Stuart team and emerged victorious with a 56-46 win on Friday. Wilson’s defense stepped up in critical moments, and the Shelburn brothers continued to deliver offensively, propelling the team into their second straight championship appearance.

Though the Tigers fell just short of the ultimate goal, their season was a testament to hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. Finishing as Class B State Runners-Up, Wilson cemented itself as one of the top small-school programs in the state.

While the loss stings, Wilson’s unwavering determination and thrilling playoff run will not be forgotten anytime soon. The Tigers may have taken home the Silver Ball, but their effort and heart throughout the season made them champions in the eyes of their community.
