The Dewar squads walked out of their home gymnasium with a split decision, as the Lady Dragons cruised to a 65-27 victory in the opening contest, while the Dragons were on the losing end of a 67-49 outcome in the nightcap.

The Dewar squads walked out of their home gymnasium with a split decision, as the Lady Dragons cruised to a 65-27 victory in the opening contest, while the Dragons were on the losing end of a 67-49 outcome in the nightcap.
The Dewar cagers returned to action Thursday with a home battle with the Wetumka Chieftains and Lady Chieftains and will also be at home Friday, hosting the Graham-Dustin Chieftains and Lady Chieftains. The Dragons and Lady Dragons will close out the first-half portion of their regular-season schedule Tuesday at Canadian High School.
In Tuesday’s girls game against Mason, the host Dewar ladies came out of the opening frame with a 19-6 advantage. The visitors took the second stanza by a slim 15-14 margin for a 33-21 halftime lead for the host Lady Dragons.
The Dewar cage squad outscored the Lady Eagles by a combined 32-6 margin in the second half to walk off its home floor with the lopsided 65-27 victory.
Bre Harvell had the hot hand offensively for Dewar in the home win, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Marti Yaerger was next in the Lady Dragon scoring column with 14, followed by Lay-Lay Carter and Laynie Taylor with 11 apiece.
Other Dewar scorers in the home win were Tajaya Lewis with seven, Mariah Carter two, and Gracie Johnson, Raygin Thomas, and Korbyn Anderson one each.
In Tuesday’s boys home battle with Mason, the visitors took the opening frame by a 22-10 margin and outscored the host Dragons 23-15 in the second quarter to put the Dewar gentlemen in a 20-point deficit - 45-25 - at halftime.
The Dragons attempted to overcome the large deficit in the second half, but was only able to manage a pair of one-point advantages - 9-8 and 15-14, respectively - to wind up on the losing end of a 6749 outcome.
Dewar had three players reach double-digit scoring in the home loss, led by Tanner Wilson with 15, followed by Skelly Taylor and John Rex with 12 apiece. Seth Hudson was next for the Dragons offensively on Tuesday with five, followed by Stoney Yaerger with three and Jeron Brison two.
