The Okmulgee County Treasurer’s Office has extended the date from Dec. 31, 2023, to January 5, 2024, to pay your 2023 taxes without penalty. Their office will be closed on Dec. 22 and 25, according to Treasurer Lindsay Bunch.

According to Oklahoma Statute (O.S. 68 # 2915), the County Treasurer is required to mail a tax bill to each property owner, however, failure of any taxpayer to receive a tax bill, does not relieve the taxpayer of the tax liability nor does it extend the date which payment is due.

If you do not receive a tax statement by the first week in December, please contact the treasurer’s office at 918756-3848.

The current tax payment must be paid in full or in two equal payments if the entire bill is $25 or more. The first half payment must be made by Dec. 31, and the second half by March 31, 2024, without penalty.

“If the first half is not paid by Dec. 31, then the entire bill is due and becomes delinquent on Jan. 1, 2024, unless the date has been extended, and penalty starts at the rate of 1.5% per month until paid in full,” Bunch stated.

If a property owner sees “BT” following your tax roll item number, then you owe for previous years’ taxes or special assessments.

The Treasurer’s Office can only accept the exact amount due, which is listed on the statement.All incorrect payments will be returned, and this may cause you to incur a penalty.

Taxpayers can combine multiple statement amounts onto one payment.

There will be a Payment Drop Box outside of the Okmulgee County Courthouse located under the American flag.

Payments accepted are cash, cashier’s check, money order and personal checks. The Treasurer’s Office also accepts debit and credit cards for tax payments in the office or online. Card fees are 3% with a minimum fee of $1.95.
