The Schulter varsity basketball program began the home portion of its regular-season schedule Tuesday evening against the Butner Eagles and Lady Eagles.

The Schulter cage squads emerged from the home opener with a pair of double-digit victories to improve to 2-0 on the young 2023-2024 campaign.

The Lady Bulldogs began the home-opening sweep with a 52-13 decision in the opening contest, while the Bulldogs overcame a sluggish start to dispatch the Eagles by a 75-34 margin to complete the sweep.

The Schulter cagers are scheduled to return to action Friday evening with a trip to Hanna for a showdown with the Hanna Dragons and Lady Dragons.

After the road trip to Hanna, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to return home next Friday against Wanette.

In Tuesday’s girls home opener, the Schulter ladies took the opening frame by a 26-3 margin, then outscored the visiting Lady Eagles 12-2 in the second stanza for a commanding 38-5 halftime advantage.

The Lady Bulldogs came out of the third period with a 12-3 margin to take a 50-8 lead into the final eight minutes of regulation.

Butner escaped the final frame with a 5-2 margin, but it was the Schulter ladies that walked off their home floor with the decisive 52-13 victory.

Payton Campbell and Macee Henderson were tops offensively for the host Lady Bulldogs, finishing with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Other Schulter scorers in the home opener were Jenna Henderson with eight, Caidence Campbell six, Alyssa Evans 4, and Lexi Hurt and Journey Henderson two apiece.

In Tuesday’s boys home opener, the Schulter gentlemen doubled up on the visitors 22-11 in the first eight minutes of action, then outscored the Eagles 19-7 in the second stanza for a 41-18 advantage at the intermission.

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a 28-11 margin, then completed the home-opening win by edging Butner 6-5 in the final frame for the 75-34 decision.

Bobby Calhoun led the Schulter offensive attack on Tuesday, finishing with a game-high 20-point performance. Zalyn Vinyard was next in the Bulldog scoring column with 18, followed by Kenta Carder and Vincent Bess with 11 apiece.
