Dewar shuts out Wilson in county softball battle
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The varsity fastpitch softball teams from Dewar and Wilson met at the Wilson high school softball field Tuesday evening for their annual county diamond battle.

After seven innings of action, the visiting Dewar Lady Dragons emerged with the 8-0 decision.

The shutout victory pushes the Lady Dragons’ season record to 11-0, while the Lady Tigers dropped to 6-3 and snap their 5-game winning streak.

Dewar was back in action Thursday at the Depew Tournament, while Wilson will return to the field on Monday at home against Mason.

In Tuesday’s county battle, the visitors opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the second. The Lady Dragons added a run in each of the third and fourth innings for a 7-0 advantage, then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the 8-0 decision.

The Dewar offense was led by the trio of Marti Yaerger (2 for 4, 2 singles, 2 RBIs), Brooke Thomas (2 for 4, 2 singles), and Bre Harvell (2 for 4, 2 singles) with two hits apiece.

The other two base hits for the Lady Dragons on Tuesday came on a single by Raygin Thomas and RBI single by Jaycie Berry.

Other Dewar baserunners in the county battle were Yaerger (walk), Raygin Thomas (walk), Alyssa Baughman (3 walks, RBI), and Brailee England (walk). England drove in one of the five Dewar runs in the second with an RBI sacrifice bunt.

The Lady Tigers were limited to just two hits in the contest a single by Kaozong Yang and double by Jamie Proctor. The only other Wilson baserunner against Dewar was Gracie Bear, who drew a walk in the county battle.
