The Fire Marshal position was abolished and the City Council reduced the budget for personnel services.

The Fire Marshal position was abolished and the City Council reduced the budget for personnel services.

The Knight Brigade was going to march in the National Memorial Day Parade in D.C. in honor of all the communities that were affected by the disastrous weather that had been through and our veterans. They also planned to do a collection when they returned to deliver to the areas that needed more help.

Henryetta students were able to get some technology learning materials through grants they received

from ONEOK and local fundraisers to further some education.

The Cine was playing “The Newton Boys,” “Godzilla” and “Quest for Camelot.”

The 4-H Regional Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Contest was held at the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge. Henryetta placed first for the senior group. Individually a few students took awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

A man on a motorcycle was transported to the hospital following an accident with a Postal Service Tow Truck. It was an accident as the motorcycle was in the tow trucks blind spot.

A stolen Ford was recovered from the Deep Fork River a popular fishing spot. A fisherman spotted it half a mile down the river from the Highway 266 Bridge. The vehicle was reported missing from Muskogee.

50 Years Ago:

Henryetta High School band was given the opportunity to march in the Armed Forces Day parade.

A Henryetta man was named “Best Actor” at Kansas State College. He won an award for his portrayal of William Shakespeare in “The Cry of Players” he was also nominated for his performance in “Romeo and Juliet.”

Henryetta Furniture Co. was selling La-Z-Boy recliners for anywhere from $166 to $270. Now the cheapest La-Z-Boy recliner you can get is $500.

100 Years Ago:

Henryetta was ordered to shut all businesses down at lunchtime for the Shriners that had came to town for their spring ceremony of the Bedouin Temple.

The Henryetta newspaper used to be called The Henryetta Daily Standard. In Henryetta and the outlying districts if by carrier, you paid 15 cents a week, 65 cents a month, and $7.50 per year. By mail, it was $5 a year.

The Morgan Theater was showing “The Hottentot,” “The Salesman,” and “A Dangerous Adventure.” The Yale Theatre was showing “Haunted Valley.” The Cozy Theatre was showing “The Tents of Allah.”
