The Morris School board adopted several policies and changes during their meeting Monday.
The members approved the recommended changes to page 26 of the Morris Public Schools Reopening Plan.
Previously, the plan called for a suspension or cancellation of all activities in the event of closure of a district site due to COVID-19.
Now, certain circumstances of closure would not result in that automatic reschedule or cancellation of all activities.
The updated procedures now reads, “The superintendent in consultation with the board of education, building principals, and/or health department will make all determinations on the participation, reschedule, or cancellation of school activities.”
A Public Hearing was also held to allow tribal officials and parents of Indian children to discuss the school’s Impact Aid program and Title VI program. Coach John Walker covered some of the information about the programs before the board voted to adopt the Indian Education Policies and Procedures for Morris Public Schools.
Superintendent Dr. Chris Karch was named as the authorized representative for Title VI for FY 21.
The board also approved the bus lease quotes from Summit Bus Company. The approved lease is for three 53- and four 71-passenger buses for the 2022 School year.
Other items approved were:
• Financial, Treasurer’s and Activity Reports
• Substitute Teachers - Mary Tawhik and Charlie Peoples
• Resignations - Amy Ansley and Amber Grammar
Superintendent Karch updated the members on the current enrollment figures. There was an increase of 14 students during the month of November.
The superintendent and the board discussed at length the budget for the school year, and the members were given an update on the changes in winter sports and protocol for basketball games. There will be 200 tickets available for local attendees, and 200 for the visiting team and their fans.
Virtual Fridays will continue through Spring Break, and a decision will be made at that time whether to continue.
Today is the last day of the first semester. Classes will be dismissed through Jan. 4 (Professional Day). Classes will resume on Jan. 5.
