“It felt really good,” Lollis said. “I wasn’t sure if I would get it or not, but my coach called me and told me and I was really excited. I put a lot of work into tennis.”
Lollis is the second consecutive Knight to make it onto the All-State roster. Wion was garnered a position on the East Boys All-State tennis team.
In 2019, Lollis made it to the Class 4A State Boys Tennis tournament in the No. 1 Doubles division. He was partnered with Wion, who had made it to the tournament three consecutive years in singles.
The duo started strong, defeating Wagoner’s No. 1 doubles in a sweep 6-0, 6-0. Lollis and Wion stayed strong in the second round of the tournament. Going up against Pauls Valley, Lollis and Wion fought hard in three sets. It eventually came down to the last match. The Knights were tied in sets with Pauls Valley dominating the first 6-7 and Lollis and Wion leading a coming 7-5. However, the Henryetta doubles team pulled off a 6-1 win in the last set to move onto the quarter-finals. They had defeated Pauls Valley 6-7, 7-5, 6-1.
Though they had dominated Wagoner and Pauls Valley, Lollis and Wion met their match in Grove’s No. 1 doubles team. They fought hard in the first set but eventually lost 6-4, 2-6, 2-6, which knocked them down into the consolation bracket.
Lollis and Wion were fighting for 3rd place against Oolagah-Talala and managed to garner a 5-5, 6-3 set score to win bronze in the 2019 Class 4A Boys Tennis No. 1 Doubles Tournament.
Lollis was on his way to have another standout year, starting strong at the Pauls Valey Championship earlier this year. He placed 3rd in No. 1 doubles with new partner John Ritter.
“We had basically the same team from last year with just a few different, a couple different players,” Lollis said. “But I felt like we would have done really good and most of us would have been good at state.”
However, Lollis’ senior year with the Knights was disrupted due to the spread of COVID-19. The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) called off the remainder of the spring sports season in conjunction with the State Board of Education moving all Oklahoma schools to remote learning.
