The clash of the Class B-6 titans is set for Friday, Nov. 1 with the Dewar Dragons hosting the Keota Lions. Sinking their claws into an undefeated season and district record, the Dragons will go up against No. 2 Keota, who is also undefeated in districts. The Week 9 battle will decide who will enter the last week of the regular season as the No. 1 team and will set the stage for playoffs.
Keota has bounced back from a Week 2 loss to Class B Oaks Mission, going on a five-game winning streak. They will present the biggest threat to the Dragons’ undefeated record as the No. 2 team in District B-6, but the Dragons are coming off a big 74-28 win over Gans.
Earning a total offense 728, the Dragons found big success on the ground last Friday against the Gans Grizzlies. The Dragons had a well-balarsenal with running back Shawn Maxwell, wide receiver Thomas Brownfield, wide receiver James Brison, wide receiver Ty Whitlow and utility Josh Maldonado all making touchdowns. The Grizzlies were only able to chime in during the second quarter with a 32-yard run and then in the second half for three more touchdowns, showing a diligent defense on the part of the Dragons. Maxwell, Maldonado and quarterback/defensive back Joey Fowler earning double digit tackles against the Grizzlies.
A 672-yard rushing offense propelled the Dragons into their eighth consecutive win.
They will have to bring the same energy they displayed last Friday in order to match Keota, who might be able to keep up with the Dragons. Just two weeks ago, the Keota Lions were able to garner 373 total yards going up against Porum in a 48-0 victory. The Lions found most of those yards on the ground but were able to secure 96 passing yards.
Not only were the Lions able to gain a shutout win over Porum but they came back in Week 8 to take down Arkoma in a 24-0 victory.
A tense battle is set to take place in Dewar this Friday with both teams striving to maintain their winning streak.
