An Okmulgee man has entered a guilty plea to Child Sexual Abuse in federal court.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced last week that Carl Ray Smith, 52, entered a guilty plea to Abusive Sexual Contact With A Child Under 12 Years.
The indictment alleges that beginning on or about May 1 and continuing until on or about May 25 in the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Indian Country, Smith, a non-Indian, did knowingly engage in and cause sexual contact with a person under the age of 12 years old.
Charges arose from an investigation by the Henryetta Police Department, Muscogee Creek Nation Lighthorse Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Honorable Kimberly E. West, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee accepted the plea and ordered completion of a pre-sentence investigation report.
Assistant United States Attorney Sarah McAmis and Special Assistant United States Attorney Courtney Jordan represented the United States.
Smith could face a sentence of life in prison, a fine up to $250,000.00 or both.
