Football season just has three weeks left before the postseason hits. The Henryetta Knights and the Dewar Dragons have gallantly fought seven opponents leading up to Week 8. Though classes separate them, both county teams are looking towards the same goal – the OSSAA Playoffs. With three weeks left, the Dragons and the Knights have been working hard to improve and build up their season record. The Knights are currently in a rebuilding period with a new cast of coaches on the sidelines. A new head coach and a renewed spirit have already led the Knights to a better season record this year, 2-4. The Knights have garnered two wins against Warner and Holdenville but have also faced some tough losses to strong teams such as the Morris Eagles and the Okemah Panthers. Having already grown from last year, the Knights look like they are on a successful rebound for the end of the season. After an incredible 11-2 season record last year, the Dragons have managed to improve upon it this year with an undefeated record. Dewar has stomped every opponent they have come across including tough teams like Weleetka and Davenport, both of which are currently 4-2. The Dragons are paving the way once again to the playoffs, which they made to the quarter-final round last year. Henryetta was set to go up against Kellyville (0-6) Thursday, Oct. 17 at home, while the Dragons hit the road Thursday to play Arkoma (3-3). Check Wednesday’s edition of the Henryetta Free-Lance for updates on the Knights’ and Dragons’ Thursday night battles.
