Okmulgee High School Science, Aviation and ACE Drone Service teacher, Scott Bevan, brought two of his students to the Henryetta R/C Aviators field on Wednesday for a field analysis. Bevan and students, Serenity Mauel and Lemuel Lott, gave a presentation to Arnett of the drone equipment used during the analysis. With an estimated cost of $2,000, the drone can cover up to 120 acres within 30 minutes, taking hundreds of pictures during the process. The analyis of the Henryetta R/C Aviators field only took a few minutes. At an altitude of 200-feet during the analysis, Bevan said the drone took approximately 400 pictures. “The drone runs a grid pattern and takes pictures the entire time,” Bevan said. Once the analyis is complete, recorded images are sent to an app to be put together into a 2D model. Elevation, plant health as well as GPS coordinates are extracted from the data received.
The entire process is completed within just a few days.
Bevan noted that he is offering the drone service for free to anyone who is interested. “There are some companies that would charge around $1,000 for the analysis ran at the aviator field and anywhere from $150 to $250 per hour,” Bevan said.
