Okmulgee and several surrounding counties saw an uptick in unemployment during June, according to the latest news from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. In Okmulgee County, the unemployment rate rose from 4.7 to 5.1 percent. The county has a labor force of 15,987, with 814 currently without employment. Last June, the county’s unemployment rate was 5.3 percent. Latimer County again posted the highest jobless rate at 6.2 percent, up from 5.2 percent the previous month. McIntosh County came in second at 6.2 percent, followed by McCurtain County at 5.8 percent. The lowest county rates were reported in Alfalfa County at 1.9 percent, followed by Beaver and Cimmaron County at 2 percent. Overall for the year the unemployment rate is still down for most counties.
