National Public Safety Telecommunications Week will be recognized April 14-20. A local proclamation was signed Monday during the meeting of the Okmulgee County Board of Commissioners.

Emergencies can occur at any time that require police, fire or emergency medical services and when an emergency occurs, the prompt response of police officers, firefighters and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and the preservation of property.

The safety of police officers and firefighters is dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained from citizens who telephone the Okmulgee County 911 Communications Center.

Public safety telecommunicators are the first and most critical contact citizens have with emergency services and are the single vital link for police officers and firefighters by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them information and ensuring their safety.

To honor the hard work of these individuals, the county declares the week of April 14 through 20 to be National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Okmulgee County and will honor the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep the city and county safe.

Agenda items approved during the session were:
