GCTC launches Electrical Trades program

GCTC launches Electrical Trades program

Green Country Technology Center (GCTC) is proud to announce the launch of its Electrical Trades program, a new full-time career pathway set to serve both high school students and adult learners beginning in the 202728 academic year. This significant expansion is made possible through the overwhelming support of the communities served by GCTC, whose recent passage of a millage vote demonstrated a clear investment in the future of the region’s workforce.

The decision to launch this program was not made lightly. Prior to moving forward, GCTC conducted a comprehensive regional needs analysis spanning four surrounding counties, including Okmulgee County. The analysis examined current occupational demand, trending and projected employment data, ten-year economic growth forecasts and a review of which jobs are growing and which are available right now – across the region. Economic development data from all four counties was compiled and evaluated to identify where workforce gaps exist and where GCTC could make the most meaningful impact.

To ensure the data reflected the real needs and interests of the stakeholders GCTC serves, that research was paired with direct community engagement. GCTC surveyed current students, prospective students from area sending schools and the broader community at large. The response was clear: electrical trades ranked as a high-priority career pathway with strong interest and real demand. The Electrical Trades program is the direct answer to what the data – and the community asked for.

GCTC’s Electrical Trades program will prepare students for careers in one of the most in-demand skilled trades industries in Oklahoma and across the nation. Upon completion, students will be positioned to pursue professional licensure and industry- recognized credentials, with hands-on instruction grounded in current electrical codes, safety standards and real-world application.

“This program is the direct result of our community saying yes – yes to skilled trades, yes to career pathways, and yes to the next generation of workers who will power our homes, businesses, and infrastructure,” said Mr. Roger King, Superintendent/CEO for GCTC. “We don’t take that trust lightly. Every step of this launch is a reflection of the confidence our communities have placed in us.”

— GCTC now hiring Electrical Trades instructor To bring this program to life, GCTC is actively seeking a qualified Electrical Trades Instructor to join its team of career and technical educators. This is a fulltime, certified instructional position open to experienced electrical professionals who are ready to transition their expertise into a classroom setting and make a lasting impact on the next generation of skilled workers.

Qualified candidates will possess: • A valid Electrical Journeyman License (Electrical Contractor License preferred) • A minimum of three years of hands-on industry experience, with 4,000+ hours of documented field work.

• An Industry Specialist Certification or CareerTech teaching certificate (or eligibility for provisional certification through OSDE).

• Strong communication, organizational and classroom management skills with a commitment to student success.

Teaching experience in a vocational or career-technical setting is a plus, though not required. GCTC is committed to supporting new instructors through the certification process for the right candidate.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a resume directly to Donna Stacy at dstacy@gctcok.edu.
