Dewar teams deliver big weekend on the diamond
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

The Dewar Dragons and Lady Dragons delivered an exciting stretch of games last week, highlighted by clutch home runs, dramatic comebacks and strong pitching performances as both programs picked up impressive victories against regional competition.

From walk-off heroics to a grand slam that set the tone early, Dewar’s teams showed resilience and power at the plate while continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.

— Yaerger’s grand slam sparks Dewar victory The Dewar Dragons opened the stretch with a commanding 10-2 win over Barnsdall on Thursday, fueled by a huge performance from Stoney Yaerger, who drove in five runs to lead the offense.

Yaerger’s biggest moment came early in the contest. In the bottom of the first inning, the Dragons slugger blasted a grand slam to left field, immediately giving Dewar control of the game and energizing the home crowd.

The Dragons added to their lead in the second inning when Yaerger delivered again, lining out to drive in another run and extend the advantage to 6-0.

Barnsdall mounted a brief response in the fourth inning when Francis homered to left field, driving in two runs and trimming the deficit. But Dewar quickly regained command in the fifth.

The Dragons pushed three more runs across the plate to seal the victory. Tanner Wilson grounded out to score one run, and Braelin Lewis followed with a two-run home run, stretching the lead to the final 10-2 margin.

On the mound, Traber Jones turned in a strong outing for Dewar. The right-hander worked five innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out six and walking three.

At the plate, Ayden Been led the Dragons with two hits, finishing 2-for-2, while the team showed excellent discipline by drawing eight walks. Lewis and Cooper McGee each collected two walks as Dewar consistently put pressure on Barnsdall pitching.

Defensively, the Dragons were flawless, committing no errors. Vinton Goff handled the most chances in the field with six.

Barnsdall finished with three hits, including one apiece from Marin, Cole and Francis.

— Dewar walks it off with seventh-inning rally

One night later, the Dragons delivered one of their most thrilling finishes of the young season, rallying from a five-run deficit to defeat Amber-Pocasset 6-5.

Amber-Pocasset appeared in control after scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning. The rally included singles by Copeland and Riley, along with runs scored on a wild pitch and a dropped third strike.

But Dewar refused to fold. Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Dragons exploded for six runs on three hits to complete the dramatic comeback.

The rally began when Braxton Wiebe singled to score one run. An Amber-Pocasset error plated another run before Johnathan Wilson delivered a run-scoring single. Two additional runs crossed the plate on another defensive miscue, sealing the comeback victory.

Cooper McGee started on the mound for Dewar, pitching four innings while allowing five hits and five runs (four earned). He struck out five and walked four.

The Dragons’ bullpen then shut the door. Tanner Wilson and Stoney Yaerger each tossed scoreless innings to keep the game within reach and set up the late rally.

At the plate, Ayden Been drove in two runs to lead Dewar’s offense, while Yaerger collected two hits in two at-bats.

Copeland paced Amber-Pocasset with three hits, and the visitors also turned a double play during the contest.

— Dragons power past Gore The Dewar bats stayed hot Saturday as the Dragons rolled to a 10-2 win over the Gore Pirates.

Gore struck first when Gage Dame launched a solo home run in the top of the first inning.

However, Dewar answered immediately. The Dragons capitalized on three Gore errors in the bottom of the inning to surge ahead 4-2.

From there, Dewar’s power hitters took over.

Traber Jones blasted a two-run homer in the third inning, and Stoney Yaerger followed with a two-run shot in the fourth. The Dragons added insurance in the fifth when Tanner Wilson crushed a two-run home run to right field.

On the mound, Ayden Been delivered a solid performance. The left-hander allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out three and issuing no walks.

Dewar finished with nine hits in the game. Wilson and Jones each recorded two hits, while Wilson, Jones and Yaerger all drove in two runs apiece.

The Dragons also turned a double play defensively.

For Gore, Dame led the offense with two RBIs, while Kyler McGee, Kason Short and James Brasuell each recorded a hit.

— Dewar outslugs Vian in shootout

Saturday’s final game featured fireworks on both sides as Dewar edged Vian 12-10 in a high-scoring contest.

Vian jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning when Riley Ellis grounded into a fielder’s choice and Clayton Thomas singled, scoring two runs.

A sacrifice fly by Colten Smith in the second extended the Wolverines’ lead to 3-0.

The Dragons responded in the second inning, tying the game with help from defensive miscues before taking control in the third.

Dewar seized the momentum when Cooper McGee blasted a two-run homer, followed shortly by another two-run home run from Traber Jones.

The Dragons’ offense continued to produce throughout the game.

Ayden Been led Dewar with four RBIs, finishing 3-for-5, while Jones added two hits.

Dewar collected 10 hits and drew 12 walks, demonstrating patience and discipline at the plate. Jones, Braelin Lewis, Stoney Yaerger and McGee each drew two walks.

Pitching duties were shared by Vinton Goff, who started the game, and Tanner Wilson, who delivered 3⅔ innings of relief, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four.

Vian also tallied 10 hits in the contest. Clayton Thomas, Drake Collins and Chris Cheater each recorded two hits, while Collins and Cheater drove in three runs apiece.

— Lady Dragons rally past Henryetta

While the Dewar boys were producing fireworks at the plate, the Dewar Lady Dragons softball team staged a dramatic comeback of their own, defeating the Henryetta Lady Knights 7-5 Thursday at Dewar.

Henryetta built an early lead in the third inning when Lexi Greenhaw singled to center field, driving in a run. Later in the inning, Allie Davis walked with the bases loaded, pushing another run across the plate.

The Lady Knights eventually extended their advantage to 5-1, putting Dewar in a significant hole.

But the Lady Dragons chipped away before delivering the decisive blow in the sixth inning.

With the game tied 5-5, Peyton Farrow came through in the clutch, singling to drive in two runs and give Dewar the lead for good.

The Lady Dragons finished with 10 hits, led by Miracle Story, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Jaycie Berry added two hits, while Farrow drove in three runs.

Dewar also demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing 11 walks, including three by Cali Thomason.

Thomason also earned the win in the circle. Despite Henryetta’s offensive pressure, she battled through seven innings, allowing 17 hits and five runs, striking out eight and walking four.

The Lady Dragons were flawless defensively with no errors, and Melaina Ramirez led the defense with eight fielding chances.

Henryetta finished with 17 hits, led by Jordyn Goodman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Kynlee Wynne added three hits, while Greenhaw, Davis, Ailanee Hicks, Aubrey Taylor and Goodman each drove in runs.

The Lady Knights also played clean defense, committing no errors.
