Community members gathered recently for the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Legislative Forum, held the first Friday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in the meeting room at Shoney’s. The forum, which runs from February through May, is open to the public and provides local residents the opportunity to hear directly from state leaders and discuss legislative issues affecting Oklahoma communities.
During the meeting, attendees received an update on progress at the Oklahoma Legislature as lawmakers recently cleared the first major deadline of the 2026 legislative session. Hundreds of bills advanced through committee, allowing them to remain eligible for consideration by the full House or Senate. Lawmakers and analysts noted that proposals that missed the deadline may still return later in the session as legislative negotiations continue.
State leaders attending the forum shared insights into what residents can expect in the coming months. Senator Brian Logan (Senate District 8) spoke with Henryetta citizens about legislative priorities and upcoming debates expected at the Capitol.
The forum also included former Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives Charles Mc-Call, who served as Speaker 2017 to 2025, making him the longest-serving Speaker in state history. McCall became known for his conservative fiscal policies, record increases in education funding, and support for legislation such as constitutional carry. A former community banker and mayor, McCall is currently running for Governor of Oklahoma in the 2026 election.
Local political developments were also discussed during the meeting. David Nelson from Morris, who previously ran for the Senate seat in District 8, announced his intention to run for the Oklahoma House District 16 seat.
That announcement comes as Scott Fetgatter, who has represented District 16 since 2016, confirmed he will not seek reelection. During the forum, Fetgatter shared an update on legislative activity and provided a glimpse of what residents might expect in the months ahead. He also hinted at possible plans for the future following the end of his term.
Known for his dedication to Oklahoma and its citizens, Fetgatter has been a consistent presence at local legislative forums and community events. Many attendees noted his commitment to representing District 16 and expressed appreciation for his years of service.
The Henryetta Chamber of Commerce and Forum Chair Kenny Wilson encourage community members to attend the remaining forums this spring to stay informed and engaged with state leaders as the 2026 legislative session continues.
