Henryetta student to participate in Washington, D.C. leadership forum

This summer, Michael Gryder, a student at Henryetta High School and member of the Muscogee Nation, will join outstanding students from across the nation to take part in a unique academic and career oriented development experience. The NYLF Law & CSI Youth Leadership Forum at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., is a Envision by WorldStrides family program that enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom.

My name is Michael Katherine Gryder, age 15 and a sophomore at Henryetta High School, and I was very excited to find out I was nominated by a teacher for this Leadership Forum based on my Pre-ACT scores, aptitude test results, and overall school performance. I find CSI more interesting than Law but am excited to learn more about both and participate in mock trials based on real Supreme Court Cases as well as meet important individuals from these fields. I will also receive college credit for this forum as a jumpstart to my college plans.

Additionally, I plan to enroll in concurrent enrollment this summer. Outside my educational goals, I am a Okmulgee County 4-H officer and the President of the Schulter/Wilson 4-H Club. I show livestock, lead showmanship workshops, participate in several other 4-H activities including cooking, knowledge, speech, and skill based competitions. I have also lead workshops for 4-H and MCN Environmental Conferences about wildlife management through furbearer trapping as I am a member of both Oklahoma Furbearer Alliance and Fur Takers of America.

“I am excited for Michael to meet, work and collaborate with fellow high-aspiring students from other cities and schools,” said Dr. Jan Sikorsky, Vice President, Education for Envision. “NYLF Law & CSI is a wonderful opportunity for ambitious young students to explore their interests outside the classroom and discover how to innovate and think creatively through handson immersive learning. Our students are challenged with real-world simulations and problems, working together to develop unique solutions and projects to bring life to their studies and career interests.”

For over 40 years, Envision by WorldStrides has empowered extraordinary students to become their best selves through programs that enable them to discover their passion, explore a career, and positively impact their world. In 2018, Envision became part of the WorldStrides family. The largest provider of educational travel and experiences in the United States, WorldStrides works with over 50,000 educators each year to help more than 550,000 students see the world-and themselves in new ways.
