Henryetta Lions set busy spring schedule

The Henryetta Lions Club gathered on Feb. 26 at The Shack 2.0 for its regular meeting, with members discussing a full slate of upcoming community projects and spring events.

Members in attendance included Bob Fowler, John Tedlock, Brittany Alston, Adriana Banks, Steve Rainwater, Sherri Crosby, Lindsey McKinney, Mylena Poulton and Ashley Morris. No guests were present.

During the Sunshine Report, members shared positive updates, including appreciation for the beautiful weather and ongoing plumbing work being completed, a blessing noted by Lion Ashley.

Routine business was conducted with approval of the previous minutes following a motion by Lion Bob and a second by Lion Lindsey. Lion Ashley filled in as Tail Twister, quizzing members on who authored the Pledge of Allegiance, adding a lighthearted educational moment to the meeting.

— Scholarship deadline approaches One of the key reminders during the meeting was the approaching scholarship deadline of March 1. Scholarship Chair Lion Lindsey McKinney recruited Lions Brittany Alston and Adriana Banks to assist with reviewing applications. The committee will soon make its selections and present awards at the upcoming awards assembly.

The scholarship program is one of the Lions Club’s longstanding commitments to supporting Henryetta students and investing in the future of the community.

— Rummage Sale to

support Christmas Basket fund Planning is also underway for a major fundraising effort. Lion Sherri Crosby has initiated a rummage sale fundraiser to benefit the club’s Christmas Basket fund.

The main sale is scheduled for June 5-6. Additionally, a tentative pre-sale is planned for Saturday, March 7, weather permitting, at the storage units east of the old Pig Out location.

A flyer has been posted on Facebook, and members are encouraging the public to share the information. Volunteers are needed to assist with the fundraiser. Community members with questions can contact Sherri Crosby at 918-650-3513.

Funds raised from the rummage sale will go toward the club’s annual Christmas Basket program, which provides assistance to local families during the holiday season.

— Annual Easter Egg Hunt set April 4 Another highly anticipated community event is the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt, scheduled for April 4 at Nichols Park ball fields.

Club members are asked to arrive around 8:30 a.m. to help with setup. The hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and is expected to conclude by approximately 10:30 or 11 a.m.

The Easter Egg Hunt is one of the club’s signature annual events, drawing families from across Henryetta for a morning of fun and fellowship.

— District Convention in Okmulgee March 14 Lions also discussed the upcoming District 3E Convention, which will be held March 14 at the Elks Lodge in Okmulgee. A casual dinner at El Avocado is planned the evening before for members who would like to gather and visit with fellow Lions from other clubs.

The convention provides an opportunity for Lions from across the district to collaborate, share ideas and strengthen their service efforts.

— Support for Fellow Lion’s Family In a moment of heartfelt concern, members shared an update that Lion Denise’s husband, who was diagnosed with lung disease about two years ago, had recently been admitted to the hospital with double pneumonia and placed on life support.

Lion Sherri made a motion to gather a basket of goodies to wish him well, seconded by Lion Steve. The motion carried unanimously, reflecting the club’s spirit of compassion and support for its members.

The meeting concluded following a motion to adjourn made by Lion John and seconded by Lion Lindsey. The minutes were respectfully submitted by Lion Ashley Morris, President.

— Upcoming Speakers The Lions Club also released its upcoming Lions of the Day/Speaker schedule:

• March 5 – Ashley Lirette • March 12 – Steve Sanford

• March 19 – Colleen Fowler

• March 26 – Lindsey McKinney

• April 2 – Troy Mordecai
