Dewar tops Beggs in county slow-pitch battle
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

The 2026 fast-pitch softball season opened Monday in Dewar with an offensive showcase, as the Dewar Lady Dragons outlasted the Beggs Lady Demons 9-6 in a game that featured 30 combined hits.

Senior standout Emmy Hall was nearly impossible to retire, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Dewar’s attack. Hall singled in the first inning, doubled in the second, added another single in the fourth, and delivered a solo home run to center field in the sixth inning to provide key insurance for the Lady Dragons.

— Fast start sets the tone

Dewar struck early in the bottom of the first inning. Korbyn Anderson tripled to drive in two runs and ignite the home crowd. Miracle Story followed with a groundout that scored another run, and Shyan Snelson added a groundout that plated two more. By the end of the frame, Dewar had seized control with a five-run outburst.

Snelson later extended the lead to 6-1 with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, continuing the Lady Dragons’ productive approach at the plate.

Hall’s sixth-inning home run helped keep Beggs at bay as the Lady Demons continued to chip away offensively.

Dewar finished with 13 hits in the victory. Snelson, hitting seventh in the lineup, drove in three runs to lead the team in RBIs. Jaycie Berry, Korbyn Anderson, and Peyton Farrow each collected multiple hits. Cali Thomason showed patience at the plate, drawing two of Dewar’s five walks.

Defensively, the Lady Dragons were flawless, committing no errors. Berry was especial- ly active, recording five defensive plays.

— Beggs’ bats stay busy

Despite the loss, Beggs piled up 17 hits in a strong offensive showing. Avery Been, Ruby Tenison, and Taytum Mills each had three hits to lead the Lady Demons. Abby Yandell went 2-for-4 and drove in a team-high three runs, while Abigail Harmon added two hits in four at-bats.

Beggs was also error-free in the field, with Harmon handling a team-high six defensive chances.

— Thomason earns the win

Cali Thomason went the distance in the circle for Dewar, earning the win after allowing six runs on 17 hits over seven innings. She did not issue a walk.

Ruby Tenison started for Beggs and worked six innings, surrendering nine runs on 13 hits while striking out two and walking five.

While it was only Opening Day, both teams showed offensive firepower and defensive consistency. Dewar capitalized on timely hitting to secure the win, while Beggs demonstrated the depth and resilience that should make the Lady Demons competitive throughout the season.
