Postseason intensifies across county

Tournament basketball has reached full stride across Okmulgee County, with district battles giving way to regional showdowns and area tournament opportunities this week.

Several county teams remain active across multiple classifications, including Beggs, Henryetta, Morris, Preston, Dewar, Wilson, Okmulgee and Schulter, each navigating its postseason path in hopes of extending the season.

Early tournament contests already produced memorable moments, particularly from Dewar and Wilson, whose performances set the tone for a week filled with elimination games, advancement opportunities and championship aspirations.

— Tigers show resilience in regional loss

Wilson’s postseason run encountered a difficult challenge Saturday as the Tigers fell to Glencoe, 79-55, in regional action.

Despite the final margin, Wilson displayed competitiveness throughout stretches of the contest.

Glencoe built a 20-14 first-quarter advantage before unleashing a decisive 16-point run that created separation and forced the Tigers into comeback mode.

Wilson responded with its strongest play in the fourth quarter, outscoring Glencoe 1913 to close the game with energy and determination.

Ke’shon Shelburn paced Wil- son with 18 points while delivering a standout all-around effort that included nine rebounds, four blocked shots and two three-pointers.

Wilson also received scoring contributions from:

• Andrew Wilson – 9 points

• Jacquorrie Shelburn – 8 points

• Alec Ganote – 5 points

• Esiah King – 5 points

• Talan Dobson – 5 points

• Rylan Hicks – 3 points

• Aiden Barnard – 2 points Next up for the Tigers will be against Strother at Cleveland on Thursday evening.

— Dragons surge to district victory

The Dewar Dragons delivered one of the county’s most significant postseason moments, earning a district victory over Allen to keep their playoff hopes alive.

In a physical contest marked by momentum swings, Dewar leaned on defensive pressure and balanced scoring to seize control during the second half.

After trading baskets early, Dewar tightened defensively in the second quarter and entered halftime within striking distance.

The turning point arrived in the third period, when aggressive drives and second-chance scoring ignited a decisive run that shifted momentum toward the Dragons.

Dewar maintained composure in the fourth quarter, protecting possessions, converting free throws and dictating tempo to secure the win.

Stoney Yaerger led Dewar with 20 points, providing consistent offensive production throughout the night.

Joseph Moore added 11 points, while Tanner Wilson contributed seven points to round out Dewar’s scoring leaders.

Beyond individual numbers, Dewar’s success was fueled by effort plays – rebounds, loose-ball battles and defensive rotations that collectively defined the victory.

The win propelled Dewar into continued postseason play and reinforced the Dragons’ reputation as a resilient tournament competitor.

— County teams take the floor at Beggs regional site

Beggs High School will serve as a central hub for Class 3A regional competition this week, hosting both the boys and girls programs for Beggs and Henryetta.

Bracket placement confirms these programs will play regional contests at the Beggs site between Feb. 26 and Feb. 28.

The concentration of county teams creates a unique local tournament atmosphere, with familiar opponents, shared fan bases and heightened community interest converging under one roof.
