The Dewar Dragons and Lady Dragons hosted Quinton on Feb. 14, with the two schools splitting a pair of district basketball games. The Dewar boys used a strong second half to pull away for a 42-29 victory, while the Lady Dragons battled but fell to Quinton, 44-33.

The Dewar boys turned in a balanced scoring effort and a decisive third quarter to secure the win.

After leading 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Dragons extended the margin to 14-8 at halftime before erupting for a big third period, scoring 19 points to take control of the game. Dewar added nine more in the fourth quarter to seal the 42-29 victory.

Tanner Wilson led the Dragons offensively with 15 points, helping spark the second-half surge. Braylin Lewis added 11 points, while Joseph Moore contrib- uted six and Johnny Wilson finished with five. Additional scoring came from other Dragons players to round out the balanced attack.

Defensively, Dewar limited Quinton’s scoring opportunities and forced the visitors into a low-scoring second half, allowing the Dragons to steadily extend their lead.

With the win, Dewar continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season, showing improved execution on both ends of the floor.

— Lady Dragons battle, but come up short In the girls contest, the Lady Dragons fought hard but could not overcome a strong Quinton squad, falling 44-33.

Quinton opened the game with a 5-2 lead in the first quarter and gradually built its advantage, leading 17-11 at halftime. Dewar remained within striking distance thanks to a solid third quarter but was unable to close the gap in the final period.

The Lady Dragons were paced by contributions across the lineup, with several players finding the scoring column as Dewar tallied nine points in the second quarter and 12 in the third to stay competitive.

Quinton’s consistent scoring in each quarter proved to be the difference, as the visitors finished with a balanced offensive performance and maintained their lead down the stretch.

– The Dewar Dragons were set to face Wright City on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Quinton, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. The winner will advance further in the winners bracket with a chance to move on to Area competition.

The Lady Dragons will continue their postseason run in the consolation bracket, where they will look to regroup and fight their way back through the bracket for a chance to advance.

The Lady Dragons will face Haworth at 6 p.m. Thursday. The game will be at Quinton.
