Dewar squads place 2nd at Paden Tournament
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

The Dewar Dragons and Lady Dragons turned in a strong week of basketball, finishing as tournament runners-up Monday at the Paden Tournament before both squads rebounded with impressive victories Tuesday over Weleetka Outlaws.

Both Dewar teams showcased resilience, determination, and depth during tournament play and quickly regrouped to earn a clean sweep in their return to regular-season action.

— Dewar teams finish second at Paden Tournament The Dragons and Lady Dragons battled their way into championship games Monday, proving themselves among the tournament’s top contenders.

The Dragons fell just short in the boys championship contest, dropping a narrow 6863 decision in a hardfought battle that re- mained competitive until the final buzzer. Dewar relied on balanced scoring and strong defensive effort throughout the tournament, but ultimately could not overcome late scoring runs by their opponent.

The Lady Dragons also advanced to the championship round, where they fought to the final moments before falling 56-52 in another tightly contested matchup. Dewar’s defensive intensity and offensive execution kept the game within reach, but the Lady Dragons came up just four points short of the title.

Despite the narrow losses, Dewar’s strong performances throughout the tournament were recognized with four players earning All-Tournament honors.

For the Dragons, Joseph Moore and Stoney Yaerger were selected to the boys All-Tournament Team after providing consistent leadership and standout play throughout the bracket.

On the girls side, Laylay Carter and Tajaya Lewis were named to the All-Tournament Team following strong performances that helped power Dewar into the championship game.

— Lady Dragons dominate Weleetka

The Lady Dragons quickly put Monday’s championship loss behind them, delivering a dominant performance Tuesday night with a 51-19 victory over Weleetka.

Dewar controlled the game from the opening tip, using aggressive defensive pressure to disrupt Weleetka’s offense while capitalizing on scoring opportunities on the other end of the floor. The Lady Dragons built an early lead and never looked back, showcasing strong depth and team chemistry throughout the contest.

The decisive win highlighted Dewar’s ability to regroup quickly and respond with authority following a tough tournament loss.

The Dragons followed suit Tuesday, earning a 50-41 victory over Weleetka in a competitive and physical matchup.

Dewar maintained steady control for much of the contest, relying on disciplined defense and timely scoring to hold off several Weleetka rallies. The Dragons’ ability to execute in key moments allowed them to secure the nine-point victory and complete the sweep.

The win demonstrated Dewar’s resilience and continued growth following the close championship loss just one day earlier.
