David Wiesner, American author and illustrator of children’s books, celebrates his birth date on Feb. 5, 1956, in Bridgewater Township, N.J. Best known for his picture books including some that tell stories without words.
David received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design.
He has received three Caldecott Medals for solo picture books – “Tuesday” (1992); “The Three Pigs” (2002); and “Flotsam” (2006). David has won many awards both in the United States and abroad. He is one of the best-loved and most highly acclaimed picture book authors in the world with his books being translated in more than a dozen languages.
He has received three Caldecott Honors for “Free Fall,” “Sector 7” and “Mr. Wuffles!” He is known for his art of wordless storytelling.
