A community benefit dinner is set for Friday, to help longtime Hoffman-area resident Ruby Burney Murray following a devastating electrical fire at her home last Friday night.
The fire occurred as extremely cold weather was setting in, leaving the home without heat and resulting in busted water lines, compounding the damage. Ms. Ruby is now facing several thousand dollars in repair costs, and community members are coming together to help meet that need.
The benefit fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Joy in Life, located at 611 E. Trudgeon Street in Henryetta. Plates will be available for $10 each and will include chicken Alfredo, along with salad, green beans, tea and dessert.
Ms. Ruby and her son, Lucky Burney, are well known for their compassion and service to others. For years, they have helped feed homeless individuals and families in Hoffman and surrounding communities, frequently preparing and serving meals at the Hoffman Fellowship Center. Organizers say this fundraiser is a way for the community to give back to a family that has consistently given so much of themselves.
Community members who are unable to attend are encouraged to make a donation, share the fundraiser information and help spread the word. Every contribution will go directly toward helping Ms. Ruby recover and repair her home.
