Dewar rolls in Paden Tournament

Dewar rolls in Paden Tournament

The Dewar Dragons and Lady Dragons opened the Paden Tournament in dominant fashion last Wednesday, each earning convincing wins to advance in their respective brackets before weather-related adjustments forced changes to the tournament schedule.

Both Dewar teams made strong statements in their opening-round games, showcasing depth, defensive pressure and efficient scoring as the tournament field began play.

In boys’ action, the Dewar Dragons cruised past Prue with a 73-32 victory. Dewar set the tone early, building a sizable lead through aggressive defense and transition offense, never allowing Prue to find a rhythm. The lopsided win sent the Dragons into the winners’ side of the bracket and firmly established Dewar as one of the teams to watch in the tournament.

The Lady Dragons were just as impressive on the girls’ side, overpowering Carney 65-26 in their opening- round matchup. Dewar controlled the tempo from the opening tip, using defensive pressure to force turnovers while capitalizing on scoring opportunities at the other end of the floor. The win pushed the Lady Dragons forward in the championship bracket and continued a stretch of strong tournament play.

Originally scheduled to continue earlier this week, tournament organizers announced an important update. Due to weather concerns, the remainder of the Paden Tournament has been moved to Saturday and Monday.

The updated brackets now have both Dewar teams returning to action Saturday as they continue their runs toward the championship round.

On the girls’ side, Dewar advances to the semifinal round and will play Saturday at 4:20 p.m. The Lady Dragons remain in the winners’ bracket, with a chance to advance to Monday night’s championship game.

The Dewar boys will also return to the floor Saturday at 5:40 p.m. in the next round of the boys’ bracket. Like the girls, the Dragons remain on the championship side following their decisive opening victory.

In addition to the schedule change, Dewar has also added a non-tournament game this week. The Dragons and Lady Dragons were scheduled to play at Porum on Thursday at 6 p.m., giving both teams an extra contest before tournament play resumes over the weekend.

With momentum from Wednesday’s blowout wins and a revised schedule ahead, Dewar enters the next round of action with confidence as both teams look to continue their strong performances at the Paden Tournament.

The Paden Tournament features a strong mix of area programs competing on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. Schools participating include Paden, Dewar, Prue, Carney, Mason, Oilton, Depew and Union City.
