With the clock ticking toward the final deadline, Okmulgee County Treasurer Lindsay Bunch is urging property owners to take advantage of the extended property tax payment window before penalties take effect this Thursday.
According to Bunch, the deadline for full payment or first-half payment of 2025 property taxes has officially been extended to Jan. 15. Property owners who submit payment by the end of the day Thursday will not incur any interest or late penalties.
“This extension gives taxpayers a little extra breathing room after the holidays,” Bunch said, “but it’s important not to wait until the last minute.”
Taxpayers may pay in person, by mail, or online.
While online payments offer convenience, Bunch noted they include an additional three percent processing fee, which is set by the payment processor and not the county.
Bunch also reminded residents to be mindful of recent and upcoming courthouse closures when planning in-person payments. The Okmulgee County Courthouse operated on a half-day schedule on Dec. 24, closing at approximately 1:30 p.m., and was closed on Christmas Day and Dec. 26. For the New Year holiday, the courthouse was closed on Jan. 1 and reopened the following day.
This year, the Treasurer’s Office mailed 28,662 property tax statements across Okmulgee County. In total, $27,119,321 in property taxes was billed for collection countywide, supporting schools, municipalities, emergency services and other vital local operations.
Bunch encourages property owners who have not yet paid to act quickly.
“Paying by Jan. 15 avoids penalties and helps ensure a smooth process for everyone,” she said. “We want to make sure taxpayers don’t end up paying more than they have to.”
Property owners with questions about their tax statements or payment options are encouraged to contact the Okmulgee County Treasurer’s Office as soon as possible, ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
