The Measuring Line
By MARY MORRIS HENRYETTA RESIDENT,

1 Corinthians 16:14 – Let all that you do be done in love.

What is the reason behind what we do? Whatever the situation, we must be mindful to guard our heart, for it is the origin of our thoughts and actions. It prods us in the direction we go. Our first reaction should always be love, if for no other reason than it is healthier, for both the body and the spirit, to go that direction than any other. Carrying out acts of meanness, spite, revenge, and other malicious devilry will not bring forth a picture of Jesus, no matter how much we may smile or how many amens we spout. If we talk the talk, we must walk the walk. Look again at today’s verse: Let all that you do be done in love. When what is done contains no love it will show, if not now then later. We are cautioned not to lead others astray at the peril of our soul, so we must constantly make ourselves aware that what we do is done only in love. Do frequent mirror checks, asking, “Is this love, or is it really my trying to justify actions to suit my ego?” The mirror will never lie, especially when we open our hearts to truth. Putting the love of Jesus out there has greater rewards than what we can only feebly imagine. Let Him be the guide and measuring line for your love. You can never go wrong.
