Property tax deadline extended

Okmulgee County Treasurer Lindsay Bunch is reminding property owners that the deadline to make property tax payments has been extended, while also sharing details on upcoming courthouse closures and the scope of this year’s tax collection effort. According to Bunch, the full payment or firsthalf payment for property taxes, which are normally due by Dec. 31, has been extended to Jan. 15. Property own- ers who pay by that date will not be charged any penalties.

Taxpayers have the option to make payments online; however, Bunch noted that online payments do include an additional three percent processing fee.

Bunch also outlined the holiday closure schedule for the Okmulgee County Courthouse. The Treasurer’s Office will be open half a day on Dec. 24, closing at approximately 1:30 p.m. The courthouse will then be closed on Christmas Day and Dec. 26. For the New Year holiday, the courthouse will be closed on New Year’s Day only, reopening the following day.

In terms of tax statements, the Treasurer’s Office mailed out 28,662 property tax statements countywide this year. The total amount of property taxes billed for collection in Okmulgee County is $27,119,321.

Bunch encourages taxpayers to plan ahead, especially with the holiday closures in mind, and to ensure payments are submitted by the Jan. 15 extension deadline to avoid penalties.
