Area teams gear up for big week of tournament basketball

Local basketball fans are in for one of the busiest and most exciting weeks of the early season as several Okmulgee County programs head into tournament play beginning Thursday with action stretching through Saturday. Area teams – including Morris, Preston, Henryetta and Wilson – will compete across three separate events: the Okemah Invitational, the Summit Invitational and the Wilson Tiger Classic, hosted right here at Wilson.

Packed brackets, nonstop gameplay and strong local representation promise a thrilling three-day stretch for players and fans alike.

— Wilson Tiger Classic

The Wilson Tiger Classic rounds out the week Dec. 11-13, with both girls and boys brackets featuring Wilson’s varsity and JV squads alongside Liberty, Owasso Prep, Webbers Falls, Milburn, Glenpool JV, McLain, Putnam City Heights and other incoming programs.

As stated on both brackets, the team listed on top wears white and sits to the scorer’s table left.

Admission is $5. — Girls Bracket

Wilson’s girls receive an opening-round bye and will debut Friday evening.

Thursday Games

• 5 p.m. – Liberty vs. Owasso Prep

• 1 p.m. – Milburn vs. Glenpool JV Bye teams – Wilson and Webbers Falls – await winners.

Friday Games

• 3:40 p.m. – Webbers Falls vs. Winner of Milburn/ Glenpool JV

• 6:20 p.m. – Wilson vs. Winner of Liberty/Owasso Prep Saturday Games

• 1 p.m. – Consolation (Left)

• 3:40 p.m. – Consolation (Right)

• 6:30 p.m. – Girls Championship — Boys Bracket

Wilson’s boys open the tournament on Thursday at 6:20 p.m., marking the final game of opening day.

Thursday Games

• 6:20 p.m. – Wilson vs. Owasso Prep

• 3:40 p.m. – Liberty vs. Webbers Falls

• 7:40 p.m. – McLain vs. Putnam City Heights

• 2:20 p.m. – Milburn vs. Wilson JV Friday Games

• 1 p.m. – Winner of McLain/PCH vs. Winner of Milburn/Wilson JV

• 2:20 p.m. – Winner of Wilson/Owasso Prep vs. Winner of Liberty/Webbers Falls

• 5 p.m. – Additional Semifinal

• 7:40 p.m. – Semifinal (Right) Saturday Games

• 11:40 a.m. – Consolation Final

• 2:20 p.m. – 3rd Place (Left)

• 5 p.m. – 3rd Place Final (Right)

• 8 p.m. – Boys Championship — Okemah Invitational Basketball Tournament Both the Preston Pirates and Henryetta Knights return to tournament play this week in Okemah, Dec. 11-13, joining a competitive field of programs from across the region.

— Girls Bracket

Opening-round games begin Thursday:

• 10 a.m. – North Rock Creek vs. Preston

• 1 p.m. – Chandler vs. Henryetta

• 4 p.m. – OCA vs. Okemah

• 7 p.m. – Wewoka vs. Hilldale Semifinal games will be held Friday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the championship scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.

Consolation and third-place games will fill Saturday’s early schedule.

— Boys Bracket Preston and Henryetta also appear in the boys’ division, starting Thursday:

• 11:30 a.m. – North Rock Creek vs. Hilldale

• 5:30 p.m. – Preston vs. Okemah

• 2:30 p.m. – Wewoka vs. OCA

• 8:30 p.m. – Henryetta vs. Chandler Friday’s semifinal games are set for 11:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., with the championship slated for Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

— Summit Invitational (Mingo Valley)

The Morris Eagles and Lady Eagles enter a strong field in this year’s Summit Invitational in Tulsa Dec. 11-13, joining programs from Cascia Hall, Webster, Sperry, Aspire, Summit, Riverfield, Mingo Valley, NOAH, Norwood and others.

— Girls Tournament

Morris opens play Thursday afternoon:

• 4 p.m. – Morris vs. Riverfield Other Day 1 matchups include:

• 9 a.m. – Cascia Hall vs. Webster

• 12 p.m. – Sperry vs. Aspire

• 3 p.m. – Summit vs. Mingo Valley Winners advance to semifinal contests Friday at 9:50 a.m. and 12 p.m., leading to the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Consolation games fill Saturday morning. — Boys Tournament

The Morris Eagles also appear in the boys’ bracket:

• 7:30 p.m. – Morris vs. Summit Additional first-round matchups:

• 10:30 a.m. – Webster vs. NOAH

• 1:30 p.m. – Sperry vs. Riverfield

• 4:30 p.m. – Mingo Valley vs. Norwood The boys’ semifinal games are set for Friday at 7:40 p.m. and 1 p.m., with the championship to be played Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

A full consolation schedule runs Saturday morning and afternoon.
