The Norman A. Cullen American Legion Post 85 in Henryetta is turning to the community for support after a recent break-in left the historic veterans’ hall damaged and in need of costly repairs. The incident, described as both disheartening and unexpected, has placed a significant burden on the small, rural post that has long served generations of local veterans.
According to organizers, the building suffered extensive vandalism, leaving Post 85 members – many of them elderly veterans – scrambling to restore the facility to its original condition. The Legion, composed of hometown men and women who have honorably served their country, now faces restoration costs they were never prepared to shoulder.
Community members are already stepping up, sharing messages of support and urging others to help. A GoFundMe page has been launched to assist with repair expenses, and organizers say even small contributions will make a meaningful difference.
“These men and women have served our communities with honor – now it’s our turn to show up for them,” supporters wrote in a public appeal. “Every little bit helps rebuild, restore, and support those who’ve sacrificed so much for us.”
The plea emphasizes that Post 85 has long been a cornerstone of local fellowship, patriotism and service. Restoring the building is about more than repairing bricks and walls – it’s about ensuring Henryetta’s veterans continue to have a safe gathering place where camaraderie, support, and tradition thrive.
