The Dreaded Tomorrow

The Dreaded Tomorrow

A lot of people dread mornings. Life has taught them that tomorrows always bring with them hurt and worry. Maybe even grief and loss. Convinced that every new dawn brings pain, they live filled with anxiety and a sense of dread with each sunrise. It doesn’t matter whether they know exactly what is coming that specific day, or just life overall – they fear their tomorrows.

Then there is another group. These people wake every morning with a smile of anticipation as they stretch and yawn – convinced that life is fun, life is great, and the whole world should be enjoying it with them. And on the days that life does deal them a sinkhole, they see it as an aberration in their enjoyable life. And they look forward to climbing out of it, and returning to life as it should be.

Which group is foolish and shortsighted? Is the first group just volunteering to wear impossibly dull and grayed-out glasses 24/7? Choosing to view life thru gloomy lenses that makes each day a heavy chore to face every morning? Convinced that, “This is real life, and those morons that believe otherwise have a tough awakening in front of them one of these days. And personally, I can’t wait ‘til it happens.”

Or are the people in the second group the ones being bamboozled? Believing that every day will always be fantastic, they laugh and enjoy all the good things that happen in their lives. Berating those who are just slogging through each day, until the next dreaded morning begins. “C’mon! You are looking at life so wrong! You need to wake up each day and deliberately decide to laugh and dance and enjoy all the great things in your life! Change the way you are thinking!”

So, who is wrong? Well, the Bible states in Ecclesiastes 3:4; (To each, there is) … a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; In other words, at some point in their life, times of laughter and times of sadness will both come to everyone who breathes. That means we need to give each other a break and a helping hand. Learn to rejoice with those who have reason to laugh and dance, and to weep with those who are depressed or in mourning.

Yes definitely, enjoy the happy and peace-filled days of your life, absolutely nothing wrong with that. But learn to weep with those who are not dancing right now, they need your compassion and understanding. Because remember, according to Ecclesiastes, one day it will be you in those sad shoes. Hoping to find someone who cares and can help you.

But also, please understand this: Not a person who lives truly knows what tomorrow brings. We may expect, we may believe, we may dread. But we have no way of knowing. There is only One who absolutely knows. So try to rely on Him.
