Lamentations 3:26 – [I]t is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
The Lamentations were written during Judah’s and Israel’s worst times: they were captives at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar. Can any of us even imagine watching our homes getting destroyed and then force marched into another country with only what we could carry? The wailing and the wringing of hands, the desperation, would surely wrench the heart from the hardest of people. The worst part of this story is that the people brought it upon themselves. The blame could lie nowhere else but squarely on the shoulders of those who ignored the prophets and turned away from God to false idols. That didn’t happen overnight but took hundreds of years. God’s punishment was promised and He finally delivered. He waited patiently for His beloved people to return to Him, so it just seems right to see today’s verse. Often we find ourselves in a place where we wonder what happened. Look first at that face in the mirror. Do some deep diving into the spirit and see if what has been going on aligns with God’s spirit. If not, then perhaps a change in direction is in order before destruction and desolation come. For the Lord, it is never too late to come to Him with a sincerely contrite heart, asking forgiveness and another chance to do better. When we do better, He returns the favor at a time that He knows we are ready. Wait quietly, wait patiently. Wait – it is what He is doing for us.
