The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) announced the arrest of a 19-year-old Okmulgee man following an extensive investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material.
Earlier this year, Snap- chat filed a report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) after detecting images of child sexual abuse material uploaded to an account on its platform. The NCMEC subsequently forwarded the information to the OSBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, which launched a formal investigation.
According to OSBI, special agents were able to identify the account holder as Noah Johnson, 19, of Okmulgee.
On Nov. 12, the OSBI ICAC Unit – assisted by the Glenpool Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol – executed a search warrant at Johnson’s residence. Johnson was located at the scene and interviewed as part of the investigation.
Agents determined that Johnson’s cell phone contained multiple images of child sexual abuse material. Based on the evidence collected, he was arrested and transported to the Okmulgee County Jail. Johnson faces charges of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material and Violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
The OSBI states that the investigation remains ongoing.
“The OSBI appreciates the Glenpool Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their continued assistance with this investigation,” the agency said in its announcement.
