It should be difficult for anyone to go through any given day without learning something, even if it is trivial. Learning is a lifelong process. Starting back in the womb, a fetus learns its mother’s voice and can even respond to sudden noise with a start. When the baby arrives, it begins a more rapidly developing process so that one day it can arrive at a fully functioning, adult stage of life. To say one “does not need to learn” a particular fact or process because one will “never need to know it” is dull witted and stubborn. Our Father wants us to embrace knowledge because He understands that the more we know, the better we become. You see, learning increases the neural pathways of the brain, blending one piece of knowledge with and into others so that we can make connections in our world that others may not or cannot get. And so that brings us to today’s verse. Whenever we allow the Lord into our heart, He places people and experiences before us that will shape us into a better being – rounding us out, so to speak, to become the best among the worst. Those experiences may seem harsh from time to time, but when we hold to that faith in and reverence for Him, we will always, always, be better for it. God journeys with us all. He breathed life into us. He gave us the universe and man has long sought ways to disprove His existence – yes, we are that egotistical – and has yet to do it. As a matter of fact, many scientists from various studies have begun to embrace the fact that God is there. Isn’t it odd that the bigger the brain, the bigger the ego? They are coming to the conclusion that believers everywhere knew all along: God brought it all together. So yes, learning should not be an occasional behavior. It should be a passionate endeavor, always searching for that next neural pathway to open up. But make sure your center, your focus, lies in God above first. Then you will never squander a moment for the chance to learn something from Him.
