Lady Pirates dominate week with trio of shutouts
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

The Preston Lady Pirates softball team delivered an extraordinary trifecta of wins this past week, shutting out Nowata, Caney Valley and Ketchum in commanding fashion. From clutch hitting performances to lights-out pitching, the Lady Pirates proved why they remain one of the most formidable teams on the diamond.

— Starr steals the show in 11-0 win over Nowata In Thursday’s opener against the Nowata Lady Ironmen, Taylan Starr led the offensive fireworks with a jaw-dropping six RBIs on three extra-base hits, powering Preston to an 11-0 victory. Starr’s bat came alive with a double in the second, a two-run triple in the third, and a bases- clearing triple in the fourth.

In the circle, Josie Cope was untouchable. The right-hander threw four no-hit innings, striking out 10 and walking just two batters.

Preston scored early and often, putting up five runs in both the third and fourth innings. Key contributors included Olivia Beaver, who doubled in a run, and Kynlee Martin, who added a two-RBI single. The Lady Pirates also showcased discipline at the plate, drawing nine walks – with Ashleigh Hurt and Aiyana Beaver drawing two each – and wreaked havoc on the basepaths with six stolen bases.

— Cope is clutch in Caney Valley shutout

Later that same day, Preston continued its dominance in a 14-0 rout of Caney Valley behind Josie Cope’s stellar day at the plate. Cope went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a triple, two singles and a sacrifice fly.

In a role reversal from Game 1, Taylan Starr took the circle and dazzled with 11 strikeouts, surrendering just one hit and no walks over five innings.

The Lady Pirates launched an 18-hit assault on Caney Valley pitching, highlighted by Kynlee Martin, Josie Cope and Brooklyn Gertner, who each collected three hits. Olivia Beaver, Kristin Holuby, Ashleigh Hurt and Starr each tallied a multiple-hit performance.

Preston was flawless defensively, committing zero errors, with Gertner leading the team with 12 fielding chances.

— Martin launches homers in victory over Ketchum Preston wrapped up the week on Friday with another shutout, blanking Ketchum 10-0 at home.

Kynlee Martin led the charge with five RBIs, including a tworun homer to right field in the fourth, a two-run single and a sacrifice fly.

Taylan Starr was once again dominant in the circle, recording 10 strikeouts, allowing just one hit and walking none over four innings.

The Lady Pirates wasted no time, scoring six runs in the first two innings, before tacking on four more in the fourth. Ashleigh Hurt and Martin both logged two hits, and the team once again played error-free softball, with Gertner handling 10 clean chances in the field.
