Fast-pitch teams headed to postseason

As the 2025 OSSAA fast-pitch softball postseason kicks off, multiple teams from Okmulgee County are set to compete in regional and super regional tournaments across the state from Oct. 1-3. The stakes are high, with only regional or super regional champions advancing to the state tournament at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. Here’s a breakdown of where each local team is headed and who they’ll be facing.

— Preston – Class 2A Super Regional

• Host Site: Preston

• Dates: Thursday, Oct. 2 (Game 1 at 12 p.m.; Game 2 at 2 p.m.; Game 3 on Friday if needed)

• Preston vs. Crescent

• Best-of-three format; winner advances to the Class 2A State Tournament, Oct. 9-11 in Oklahoma City.

Preston earned hosting duties as a top-ranked team and will look to continue their dominant season with power hitters like Taylan Starr and ace Josie Cope leading the charge. A win would secure them a spot at state and possibly a deep run for Coach Jimmy Hurst’s squad.

— Wilson – Class B Regional 6

• Host Site: Soper

• Dates: Thursday – Friday, Oct. 2-3

• Game 1: Soper vs. Tupelo – 12 p.m.

• Game 2: Wilson vs. Smithville – 2 p.m.

• Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 (Elimination) – 4 p.m.

• Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 – 6 p.m.

• Friday’s Games: Consolation and Championship Rounds begin at 12 p.m. with Game 5 The Wilson Lady Tigers, led by Coach Taiah Proctor, aim to battle through a competitive bracket to punch their ticket to the Class B State Tournament.

— Morris – Class 3A Regional 7

• Host Site: Washington

• Dates: Wednesday – Thursday, Oct. 1-2

• Game 1: Washington – Bye

• Game 2: Morris vs. Hennessey – 12 p.m.

• Game 3: Bye vs. Loser Game 2

• Game 4: Washington vs. Winner Game 2 – 2 p.m.

• Thursday’s Games: Elimination and Championship Rounds begin at 12 p.m. The Lady Eagles, led by Coach Stephen Castlebury, must get past Hennessey in the opening round to set up a likely showdown with Washington. With an experienced roster, Morris is poised for an upset bid.

— Beggs – Class 3A Regional 13

• Host Site: Dewey

• Dates: Thursday – Friday, Oct. 2-3

• Game 1: Dewey – Bye

• Game 2: Beggs vs. Valliant – 1:30 p.m.

• Game 3: Bye vs. Loser Game 2 – 4 p.m.

• Game 4: Dewey vs. Winner Game 2 – 3:30 p.m.

• Friday’s Games: Championship at 10 a.m., Second Game if necessary at 12 p.m.

The Beggs Lady Demons, under Coach Cody Pair, face Valliant first with a shot at a rematch against Dewey. They’ll need timely hitting and clutch pitching to come out of this bracket.

• Game 1: Adair – Bye

• Game 2: Okmulgee vs. Atoka – 1 p.m.

• Game 3: Bye vs. Loser Game 2

• Game 4: Adair vs. Winner Game 2 – 2:30 p.m.

• Thursday’s Games: Elimination and Championship Rounds The Lady Bulldogs, under the guidance of Coach David Dunlap, will need strong defensive play to advance from this bracket. A first-game win against Atoka is essential to stay in control of their path.

• Game 1: Lindsay – Bye
