County Softball Roundup
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

It was a busy week on the diamond across Okmulgee County, with several local fastpitch softball teams taking the field. While the Preston Lady Pirates showcased their offensive firepower in a strong win over Noah, teams from Morris, Dewar and Wilson endured tough matchups against out-of-county opponents. Here’s a breakdown of the action.

— Bethel shuts out Morris, 11-0 The Morris Lady Eagles struggled offensively in Thursday’s 11-0 road loss to the Bethel Lady Wildcats. Morris managed just four hits in the game, unable to overcome Bethel’s early scoring burst in the second inning.

Bethel took control with a four-run second frame, fueled by two defensive errors and a two-RBI sacrifice fly by Layla Menhusen. Trinity Branham added a sacrifice bunt in the third, while the Wildcats piled on additional runs in later innings.

Brooke Thomas pitched five innings for Morris, allowing seven hits and nine runs – only three of which were earned. She struck out one and walked five. Chyla Marris, Katelyn Sparkman, Kailyn Fixico and Tenli Barnett each notched one hit for the Eagles.

Bethel’s Lakin Davis was dominant in the circle, tossing six shutout innings, striking out six, walking none and scattering just four hits. Offensively, Lilly Ingmire led the Lady Wildcats with a 3-for-4 performance, while Ava Gascon and Kinley Bowles also added multiple hits. Bethel played error-free defense, led by Menhusen’s eight fielding chances.

— Dewar falls to Okemah after explosive innings The Dewar Lady Dragons found themselves overwhelmed by Okemah’s offensive surge in a 17-1 loss on Thursday. Despite solid pitching early from Jaycie Berry, Dewar couldn’t stop the flood of hits in the later innings.

Okemah broke the game open in the third with eight runs on six hits, and followed that with six more runs in the fourth, including a three-run inside-the-park home run and a two-RBI triple. Dewar committed multiple errors that prolonged the damage.

Berry allowed 14 hits and 17 runs (11 earned) over four innings but did manage to strike out six batters. Offensively, Dewar’s only run came in the second inning when Korbyn Anderson singled home a run. Anderson, Berry, Jayla Nye and Jadyn Ross each recorded one hit.

Okemah totaled 14 hits and was led by #25 and #14, each with three hits and five RBIs. The balanced lineup also saw contributions from #3, #7 and #33.

— Wilson splits week with win and loss

It was a week of highs and lows for Wilson, who dropped a 9-1 contest to New Lima on Thursday but opened the week with a commanding 15-1 win over Liberty.

Wilson vs. New Lima

Wilson tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third after K. Earhart drove in a run on a single, but New Lima answered with a four-run bottom half to take control. A combination of timely hitting and defensive miscues by Wilson helped the Falconettes pull away.

Jaslene Proctor took the loss for Wilson, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on three hits. M. Dobson, K. Currin and Earhart each had a hit for the Lady Tigers.

New Lima’s Jaylee Ipock led the team with four RBIs, and five different Falconettes contributed one hit each in a well-balanced effort.

Wilson vs. Liberty

Wilson rebounded on Monday with a dominant performance over Liberty, fueled by a massive nine-run second inning. K. Earhart’s bases-clearing double headlined the frame, while M. Dobson, A. Baughman and Jamie Proctor all added RBIs.

Jaslene Proctor earned the win, allowing just two hits and one run over three innings. Wilson racked up six hits, drew seven walks and swiped six bases in the rout. Earhart led with three RBIs, while Dobson and Proctor collected two hits apiece. The Lady Tigers also turned a double play and committed no errors in the field.

— Lady Pirates cruise past Noah, 10-2

The Preston Lady Pirates continued their winning ways on Friday with a 10-2 home victory over Noah, thanks to a five-run first inning and a four-run fifth that put the game out of reach.

Preston wasted no time, with Ashleigh Hurt driving in the first run on a sacrifice fly, followed by RBIs from Olivia Beaver, Alynn LeBlanc and Brooklyn Gertner. In the fifth, Hurt sparked another rally with a solo inside-the-park homer, followed by an RBI triple from Gertner and singles from Aiyana Beaver and Kynlee Martin to cap the scoring.

Josie Cope earned the win, pitching four innings with five strikeouts and just one run allowed. Taylan Starr opened the game with a hitless inning, striking out three. Preston recorded 12 hits overall, led by Starr’s 3-for-4 effort at the top of the lineup.

Hurt, LeBlanc and Gertner each drove in two runs. The Lady Pirates were flawless defensively and aggressive on the basepaths with four steals.

Noah’s offense was limited to four hits. K Shiew had one RBI, while A Smith, Anny Nunley and K Yant added hits. Despite the loss, Noah showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks.

Preston continued their season on the road Monday against the Bartlesville Bruins.
