• Lions Club members got a chance to hear from CP Kelco Plant Manager Brian Mikels about Xanthan Gum biopolymer, where it comes from and how those biopolymers fit into the production that CP Kelco makes. Xanthan Gum is used in many salad dressings, sauces and sports drinks. They also produce for pharmaceutical companies that use the gum in toothpaste, hand creams and cosmetics.
• For the third year in a row, the state of Oklahoma did not give the standardized writing test that following spring that counted towards the students’ score or school’s letter grade. The Department of Education addressed to school district test coordinators that the writing exam will only be a field test, which is used to create test questions for the following school year.
• Henryetta Elementary School Principal, Kelley Furer, received a giant $1,566.96 check from Dana Mills of Mc-Donalds, in honor of Second-Grade teacher Roger Williams’ new title “Pie King.” Williams sold the most pies on the McTeacher Night Fundraiser that was held at McDonalds.

• In Stillwater, OSU was setting records with recruitment in state scholars and school retention, as well as a jump in enrollment for the Fall of 2000. OSU’s Vice President, Dr. Marvin Keener, projected an enrollment of 21,800 students, a pretty big leap compared to last year’s 1999 enrollment number of 19,724. Keeners mentions one reason enrollment is up, that’s because of OSU’s capability of keeping students in school, where they continue to strive to wanna learn.
• The Henryetta High School Track Team is urging their teammates families and all interested parties to attend a meeting on Sept. 20, 2000, at the Middle School Gym, to talk about the HHS’ Track Teams goal of raising $10,000 to fund the installation of an all-weather surface on out-dated track, noting how this project calls for a safer ground to run on, they are hoping to be done in time for the Spring season.
